New Balance and BEAMS Reimagine the 1000 Sneaker with a Striking Monochrome Twist

In the wake of New Balance’s 2024 revival of the retro 1000 silhouette, the Boston-based sneaker giant has joined forces with Japanese fashion label BEAMS to deliver a bold reinterpretation of the classic runner. This fresh collaboration pushes the boundaries of design by fusing minimalist tones with maximalist textures—delivering a sneaker that’s anything but ordinary.

At first glance, the BEAMS x New Balance 1000 appears uniform in its all-black presentation. But a closer look reveals a patchwork of contrasting materials that add depth and complexity to the understated palette. The design cleverly plays with perception, as each shoe features different fabric combinations—textured mesh sits alongside buttery suede, while glossy leather meets soft microfiber. These alternating elements offer a subtle yet intentional mismatch that speaks to BEAMS’ refined design sensibility.

One of the standout features of the collaboration lies in the asymmetrical “N” logos, which are slightly different on each side, elevated with a unique 3D texture. Reflective laces add a futuristic flair, bringing a touch of light to the otherwise stealthy silhouette. Inside the shoe, the co-branded insoles are printed in BEAMS’ signature orange color scheme, tying the collaboration back to the brand’s vibrant identity.

The BEAMS x New Balance 1000 will make its debut in the United States at the BEAMS POP-UP LA on Thursday, April 10. A wider release will follow through BEAMS’ official web store and selected retailers.

Blending innovation with nostalgia, this edition of the 1000 is a testament to how timeless design can be continually reinvented—one material at a time.
