French luxury fashion house Marithé + François Girbaud is stepping into the contemporary streetwear scene through an exciting new collaboration with Supreme. Known for their revolutionary approach to denim, the label—founded in 1972 by François Girbaud and Marithé Bachellere—has long been recognized for its innovation in fabric treatments and unique silhouettes.
The story of Marithé and François Girbaud dates back to the 1960s when the duo met at Western House, a Parisian clothing shop that specialized in imported dark blue denim. Here, they began experimenting with different washes at local laundromats, striving to perfect the ideal fit and fade. Their pioneering efforts led them to introduce pre-washed denim to the market, a concept that later became a global trend. They also spearheaded groundbreaking techniques such as stonewashing, laser engraving, and the development of unconventional denim constructions.
By 1968, the designers had established their own studio, where they expanded their expertise beyond denim to include moleskin, corduroy, and aged leather—fabrics that they treated with their signature worn-in aesthetic. Over the following years, they broadened their scope by incorporating knitwear, sportswear, children’s clothing, and a specialized leather line, all influenced by their original denim treatments. Their innovative designs gained traction in the American market by the early 1980s, and they made a significant impact on street fashion with their baggy jeans and X-pocket construction, challenging the traditional five-pocket jean style.
The 1990s saw the rise of their “Shuttle” jeans, inspired by space-age design elements, further solidifying their reputation as denim visionaries. Now, with decades of experience shaping the denim industry, Marithé + François Girbaud is revisiting its roots in collaboration with Supreme for Spring 2025.
This upcoming collection blends the heritage of M+FG with Supreme’s signature streetwear aesthetic, offering a diverse range of pieces including a Leather Flight Bomber Jacket, Denim Trucker Jacket, Down Puffer Vest, Hockey Jersey, Hooded Sweatshirt, Leather Cargo Pants, Baggy Jeans, Sweatpants, Denim Shorts, Tees, Camp Caps, Beanies, Tote Bags, and Towels. The denim jackets and trousers come in a variety of washes and colors, staying true to M+FG’s iconic techniques while embracing Supreme’s oversized silhouettes, camo graphics, and co-branded detailing.
The Supreme x Marithé + François Girbaud collaboration breathes new life into timeless denim craftsmanship, bridging past and present trends in a fresh, fashion-forward way.
