Since joining Dior as the menswear designer in 2018, Kim Jones has continuously pushed creative boundaries. His first collection for Dior’s Spring 2019 season saw the menswear runway wrapped around a massive 33-foot floral sculpture by renowned New York-based artist KAWS, combining thousands of pink, black, and white blooms. That collaboration was a monumental one, and it later led to a co-branded capsule collection in which KAWS reimagined Dior’s iconic Bee motif on ready-to-wear pieces and accessories.
Now, six years later, the powerhouse duo has returned to the scene with a vibrant new menswear collection for Dior. This time, the collection is bursting with colorful, kaleidoscopic snake illustrations, adding a fresh and playful edge to the line.
“KAWS is incredible as both a person and an artist,” Jones expressed in a statement. “I really admire him. It was a pleasure working together in 2019, and now it felt right to reintroduce a KAWS element to Dior.”
In their latest collaboration, Jones and KAWS explore a whimsical take on Dior’s designs. One standout piece is a pastel pink varsity jacket adorned with a slithering Dior logo across the back. The collection also features quilted coats, bold red cardigans, button-up shirts, and track pants showcasing Dior’s signature Oblique Monogram pattern. The snake illustration winds itself creatively around the “CD” initials on various ready-to-wear items and accessories, infusing the collection with an unexpected yet refined pop-art flair.
Jones noted, “I wanted something fun and pop-inspired. There’s a playfulness to it, a touch of Pop Art.”
Fashion enthusiasts can look forward to the Dior x KAWS collection landing in Dior boutiques on January 2. With pieces ranging from €270 to €8,800, this collection promises to appeal to a range of collectors and fashion aficionados alike. The vivid designs and artistic influences make this partnership a striking addition to Dior’s legacy of high-end collaborations.
